5paisa Capital Q1 FY27: Income Up 14% YoY, Profit Flat at ₹11.6 Cr as the Reinvestment Bill Comes Due

At a glance

For the quarter ended June 30, 2026, 5paisa Capital reported consolidated income of ₹88 Cr, up about 14% from ₹78 Cr a year earlier and up 3% on the March quarter. Profit after tax landed at ₹11.6 Cr — essentially flat year-on-year (₹11.5 Cr) and up around 6% sequentially. Operating profit was ₹26 Cr, on an operating margin near 30%.

The quarter carried a few notable markers. In April 2026 the company completed a rights issue raising ₹468.82 Cr through 1.56 crore new shares at ₹300 each, lifting paid-up capital from ₹31.25 Cr to ₹46.88 Cr. Promoter holding moved from 32.76% to 36.50% over the period. The results also arrived alongside an unmodified auditor review carrying an Emphasis of Matter: a ₹33.02 crore income-tax demand relating to a search that began in January 2025, which the company has appealed and states it expects to win.

Total income grew 14% while operating expenses rose 17%, per the company — which is why the top line moved and the bottom line stood still. More on how a ₹468 Cr capital raise reshapes the per-share story below.

Introduction

5paisa Capital was incorporated in 2007 and began life as a discount brokerage inside the IIFL Holdings stable. After its demerger, it became a standalone, technology-led broker offering financial products through its website and mobile app, aimed squarely at retail investors and high-volume traders who want low-cost, do-it-yourself (DIY) trading. It is registered with SEBI as a stockbroker, depository participant and research analyst, and with AMFI as a mutual fund distributor.

The recent stretch has been busy on the corporate-action front. A rights issue moved through the pipeline from February 2026 board approvals to a March Letter of Offer to an April allotment, raising ₹468.82 Cr. Mr. Gaurav Seth has been Managing Director & CEO since January 2025, following the resignation of Mr. Narayan Gangadhar. On July 16, 2026, the board approved the Q1 FY27 results and appointed Mr. Mehul Somaiya as Company Secretary and Compliance Officer.

The company also had to issue a same-week correction: its first Q1 press release described the customer base as "52.6 million" when it meant "52.6 lakh" — a factor-of-a-hundred typo that turned a mid-cap broker into a fictional demographic. Every other number, the revision confirmed, stayed put.

Its four wholly-owned subsidiaries — 5paisa P2P, 5paisa Trading, 5paisa Corporate Services, and 5paisa International Securities (IFSC) — round out the consolidated group.

Business model

5paisa makes money when people trade, and it has built an entire arcade to make sure they do. The core is broking — you place orders on NSE and BSE, it clips a fee. Around that sits an ever-expanding rack of tools with names that read like a spec sheet for a gaming rig: Scalper (3-in-1 charts, ultra-fast execution), strategy builder, option chain with position tracking, Alpha Scan for F&O signals, and AlgoSpace, a no-code algo marketplace launched June 20, 2026 under the banner "democratising algo trading for every retail trader in India."

Revenue splits three ways: broking, "allied" broking income, and "other" operating income. The genuinely interesting engine underneath is funding. Through Pay Later (MTF) and a T+5 margin product, 5paisa lends customers buying power — up to 4x leverage across 1,500-plus stocks, with the eligible universe expanded from 700 and the per-investor limit raised to ₹3 crore. Management has called Pay Later and MTF an "important monetization driver," which is a polite way of saying the more its customers borrow to trade, the more the interest line earns. The average client funding book was reported at ₹4,216 Mn for the quarter.

Then there is the AI layer, deployed with the enthusiasm of a company that has discovered a new keyword. There is "AI-guided research," "conversational advisory," "options intelligence," and 5paisa MCP — pitched as "an AI trading companion linked to broking accounts" that lets a user "analyze and execute anything via chat window." The mobile app crossed 23.8 Mn installs with a 4.3-star rating. So: a broker that has bolted a research desk, a lending book, an algo store and a chatbot onto a trading app, and monetises whichever one you touch.
