AB Cotspin Q1 FY27: Revenue Up 51.4% to ₹100.97 Cr, 50,832 Spindles, and a ₹1,500 Cr Plan Involving Roughly 200,000 More

At a glance

AB Cotspin reported revenue of ₹100.97 Cr for the June 2026 quarter, up 51.4% from ₹66.69 Cr a year earlier. Spread across 91 days, that is a Punjab cotton mill moving a little over ₹1.1 crore of yarn, fabric, seed, oil and assorted fluff every single day, including Sundays, which cotton does not observe.

Operating profit came in at ₹12.01 Cr at an 11.89% margin. PAT was ₹5.10 Cr, up 20.8% year on year. Compared with the March quarter, revenue slipped 3.1% and PAT went from ₹1.96 Cr to ₹5.10 Cr, a quarter-on-quarter swing the arithmetic insists on writing as +160.2%. Percentages computed off small bases are enthusiastic by temperament.

The board approved all of this in a meeting that began at 3:00 PM and concluded at 3:40 PM, which is efficient by any standard and heroic by the standard of Indian board meetings. In the same forty minutes it appointed a new Company Secretary.

In cotton, the calendar is part of the balance sheet: inventory days stood at 113 for FY26. Separately, the board has approved an expansion of up to ₹1,500 Cr, against FY26 revenue of ₹298.68 Cr.

Introduction

A B Cotspin India Ltd was incorporated in 1997 and is registered on Bathinda Road in Jaitu, Faridkot district, Punjab. Per Infomerics, the company has a track record of nearly three decades in spinning, and its location sits in a major cotton-producing region. It is listed on both exchanges (BSE: 544522, NSE: ABCOTS), and on September 29, 2026 it holds its 29th AGM, virtually, which spares everyone the drive to Jaitu but also the snacks.

The growth arc lives in the spindle count. The company once ran about 18,000 spindles, expanded to 32,000 in a capex that was funded by a ₹37 Cr term loan plus unsecured loans and internal accruals, and now runs 50,832. Revenue went from ₹94.11 Cr in FY20 to ₹298.68 Cr in FY26, and Screener lists five-year sales growth at 21.0%.

Funding along the way included 1,20,28,562 fully convertible warrants issued on a preferential basis for an aggregate of up to ₹84.20 Cr, approved by shareholders in September 2023. Per the company's results notes, 61,27,140 warrants converted in three tranches in March 2025, and 55,44,280 more converted on April 7, 2025. Stated uses of the money included working capital (about ₹35 Cr), loan repayment (about ₹18.70 Cr), plant and machinery (about ₹9.50 Cr) and general corporate purposes (about ₹21 Cr).

Two corporate-identity moments stand out. In August 2022, the company added four sub-clauses to its Memorandum of Association covering civil construction, land development, township building and participation in tenders. That is a cotton spinner giving itself legal permission to build a market complex, the documentary equivalent of a tailor adding "architect" to his visiting card, just in case. And in September 2026 the board proposed renaming the company ABC Industries India Limited, a change that compresses the entire word "Cotspin" into a single C.

The shareholder register counted 330 names in March 2022 and 1,850 in June 2026.

Business model

AB Cotspin takes a raw cotton boll and refuses to let any part of it go to waste.

Step one is ginning, which separates the fibre from the seed. The company has 8,500 MTPA of ginning capacity. The fibre goes to spinning, where it becomes yarn: 100% cotton yarn in counts of 20s to 30s, double yarn in the same range, slub yarn, and BCI yarn. Slub yarn is deliberately uneven, which makes it the only product in manufacturing where lumps are a feature and not a customer complaint. Cotton yarn capacity utilisation was reported at 96.62%, meaning the spindles have approximately no free time.

Step two, some of that yarn never leaves home. The knitting unit's entire yarn requirement is met in-house, so the company is its own supplier and its own customer, a relationship with remarkably few disputes over payment terms. The knitting unit makes combed, carded and slub fabrics.

Step three is the part that turns a spinning mill into a small agricultural conglomerate. The cotton seed left over from ginning gets crushed into cottonseed oil and oil cake. Crushing capacity is 500 quintals a day, with about 10% of the seed coming out as oil. The company also crushes mustard seed for mustard oil and mustard cake, because apparently one oilseed felt lonely.

The resulting product list reads like the inventory of a Punjab village economy: cotton, cotton yarn, cotton seed, cottonseed oil, cottonseed cake, cotton waste, mustard seed, mustard oil, mustard cake, cloth, and something listed as "Oil Gad." In the FY23 mix, cotton yarn contributed about 76% of revenue, cotton waste about 10% and cotton seed about 6%. Cotton waste pulling in a tenth of revenue is a line item that sounds like an apology and invoices like a product.

Per Infomerics, manufacturing contributed about 88.49% of FY25 operating income, and the remaining 11.51% came from trading excess raw cotton. Customers are textile units in Punjab and Haryana, and the top five customers contributed 55% of FY23 sales and 65% in H1 FY24. For reporting purposes, the company treats all of this as one segment, which its filings call the "Cotton ginning and netting business."
