Adani Energy Solutions Q1FY27: Revenue Up 42% to ₹9,711 Cr, PAT Doubles, and a ₹3,050 Cr Meter Deal on the Side
At a glance
For the quarter ended June 2026, Adani Energy Solutions reported consolidated revenue of ₹9,711 crore, up 42% from ₹6,819 crore a year earlier and up 31% over the March 2026 quarter. Operating profit came in at ₹3,008 crore against ₹1,811 crore a year ago. Net profit was ₹1,237 crore, up roughly 130% year-on-year — though the June 2025 base carried a large negative other-income line that dragged that quarter to a pre-tax loss, so the comparison is against a depressed starting point. EPS for the quarter was ₹9.57.
Alongside the numbers, the board approved acquiring 100% of IntelliSmart Infrastructure for ₹3,050 crore, and separately cleared a fundraise of up to ₹10,000 crore via QIP. The market currently prices the business at 71.6x earnings, essentially in line with the industry multiple of 71.7x, on a market cap of about ₹2.09 lakh crore. Promoter holding rose 1.98% over the quarter to 74.71%.
That's a company running very fast in several directions at once — and the balance sheet, ₹92,757 crore of it, has the tyre marks to prove it. More on where the money went below.
Introduction
AESL is the transmission-and-distribution arm of the Adani portfolio, and per the sources it is India's largest privately operating transmission company, with a network of 27,949 ckm across 16 states as of FY26. The business rests on four legs: power transmission, power distribution (the Mumbai and Mundra licence areas), smart metering, and an Energy Solutions Platform serving commercial, industrial and data-centre customers.
The recent record is one of relentless building. In FY26 the company commissioned five transmission projects, including the Mumbai HVDC link, and crossed one crore installed smart meters. Capex in FY26 rose 1.24x to ₹14,232 crore, and management has guided to roughly ₹22,000 crore in FY27 and ₹23,000 crore in FY28. It also refinanced a $500 million bond in March 2026 and completed a ₹8,373 crore QIP back in August 2024.
The under-construction transmission book alone is around ₹71,779 crore across 13 projects, with a stated near-term tendering pipeline of ₹1.5 lakh crore. This is a company whose to-do list is measured in lakhs of crores, and whose FY27 opened with the quarter above.
Business model
They move electrons and bill you for the privilege — with admirable structural discipline about it.
Leg one, transmission: AESL builds high-voltage lines and gets paid for keeping them available, whether or not power actually flows. Roughly 60–65% of transmission revenue sits under a national pooling mechanism where Power Grid's CTU subsidiary collects the money and passes it on, which is about as close to a toll booth as the power sector offers. Some assets earn a regulated cost-plus return (per ICRA, 15.5% post-tax); others are competitively bid and fixed.
Leg two, distribution: the Mumbai licence area under AEML, serving a consumer base of 3.29 million as of Q1FY27, plus the Mundra SEZ. Distribution loss in Mumbai was 5.16% for the quarter, up from 4.24% a year earlier, which the company attributes to heatwave-driven load — still within the regulator's 5.31% ceiling.
Leg three, smart metering: AESL installs meters for state DISCOMs under a Design-Build-Finance-Own-Operate-Transfer model, an order book of 24.6 million meters with revenue potential of ₹29,519 crore, of which 13.4 million were installed by June 2026. This is the business where you spend the money now and collect it monthly for a decade — capital-intensive patience as a service.
Leg four is the Energy Solutions Platform, plus an emerging district-cooling adjacency. The model, across all four, is the same: pour in capital, commission an asset, then meter the cash flow for years. Simple to describe, ₹92,757 crore of assets to actually do.
