Anand Rathi Wealth Q1 FY27: ₹163 Cr Profit, But ₹109 Cr of It Never Left the Spreadsheet

At a glance

Anand Rathi Wealth closed the June 2026 quarter with a reported net profit of ₹163 crore, up 77% from ₹92 crore a year earlier. That is the headline. The complication sits one line above it: operating profit was ₹108 crore, down from ₹125 crore in the same quarter last year. The distance between a shrinking operating line and a surging bottom line is ₹109 crore of Other Income — the largest single-quarter figure of its kind this company has ever booked.

Revenue from operations grew 18% to ₹313 crore. Assets under management crossed ₹1 lakh crore, reaching ₹1,06,300 crore, up 21% year-on-year. On the operating engine, the story is steady growth. On the reported profit, the story is a mark-to-market gain on a stake the company did not sell.

Management's own "core" profit, stripped of the fair value gains and stock-option costs, was ₹116 crore, up 24%. Two profit numbers, one quarter, a 40% gap between them — and both are real. A reference entry can only record that the market currently pays about 76 times trailing earnings for a firm whose latest headline was written partly in unrealised gains. The question of which profit is the "true" one is left where it belongs: on the page.

Introduction

Anand Rathi Wealth was incorporated on 22 March 1995 and is an AMFI-registered mutual fund distributor, part of the broader Anand Rathi Group established in 1994. It sits among the top three non-bank mutual fund distributors in India, selling wealth solutions to high and ultra-high-net-worth families rather than to the mass market.

The quarter carried several corporate events beyond the results. In June 2026 the company issued 1:1 bonus shares, taking the equity share count from 8.30 crore to 16.60 crore. It declared a final dividend of ₹7 per share for FY26. Its UK subsidiary in London commenced operations, and the board disclosed a plan to apply to SEBI for approval to sponsor a mutual fund — a move that would take the company from distributing other managers' funds toward manufacturing its own.

The firm operates across 18 Indian cities with a representative office in Dubai, and is pursuing regulatory approvals for Bahrain and GIFT City. The business runs as a single reportable segment: sale and distribution of financial products within India.

Business model

The pitch, in the company's own words, is that wealth management "is not a capital race — it is a credibility marathon." Stripped of the slide-deck poetry, the model is this: relationship managers sell a curated shelf of products — chiefly equity mutual funds and structured products — to wealthy families, and earn a recurring cut of the assets they gather.

The economics are unusually transparent by management's own account: roughly 1.09% on mutual funds post-GST and about 1.17–1.18% on structured products. AUM sits at ₹1,06,300 crore, split across equity MF, structured products, debt MF and others. FY26 mutual fund distribution revenue was ₹494 crore, up 22%.

The philosophy is that this cannot be scaled by throwing capital or lateral hires at it — a relationship manager takes nearly five years to become productive, and 78% of the 45 RM additions were trained internally from colleges. The company runs 417 relationship managers as of Q1 FY27. The deliberate refusal to be, in management's phrase, a "pharmacy" that stocks every product is the entire model: sell only what you would buy. It is a distribution business dressed as a monastery, and so far the returns have not argued with the costume.
